Bella Sicilia ....... a beautiful island
“To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is to not
have seen Italy at all, for in Sicily lies the key to everything” … Johann
Wolfgang von Goethe, Italian Journey, 1787
Sicily
is located in the middle of the Mediterranean and she has so much to offer to visitors
- traditions, ancient history, great temperatures, beautiful beaches, good
food and her own Volcano all to create an exciting experience.
Greek Theatre, Taormina & Mount Etna |
Spring arrives early starting with the Almond blossoms, Easter is a huge celebration with many traditional festivals and processions. Spring is a perfect time if you want to visit glamorous Taormina with its beautiful Greek Theatre and join the evening passeggiata with the beautiful people, walk amongst temples at mystical Agrigento or discover the romantic island of Ortigia. It is when the orange and lemon trees bloom and my fruit juicer goes into overtime with an abundance of citrus delights.
May and
June are perfect if you want a warm temperature to enjoy the beaches with
crystal clear waters without the summer crowds and it is when we personally enjoy our
leisurely walks along the sea front with Daisy our rescue dog picking up a
“gelato” and many new friends on the way.
Preparing for a performance by The Royal Ballet of London |
We will
usually find snow on Mount Etna from October through to March, making it
possible to ski on Europe’s most active volcano.
Sicily’s
history has left many places for us to explore, the ancient Greeks, Romans,
Arabs and Normans left temples, churches and castles within stunning scenery.
We also
have beautiful Baroque towns in the South East and our nearest city Catania has
a bustling food market which Rick Stein in his television series Mediterranean Escapes described as “the best and most colourful
fish market in the Mediterranean with fish laid out like paintings”. Thanks
Rick !!!
This is
all just a tip of the iceberg and with my White Almond blog I hope to introduce
you to the many wonderful adventures Sicily can offer …. Now let me entice you
to Sicily.
